Summer!

Samantha's face below means that she must have seen a recent weather forecast for Vegas.
WHAT?!?!?!
The thermostat has hit 105+ so it is HOT HOT HOT.
It means more time indoors for the time being but also more freeze pops in the backyard, more swimming, and more excuses to get Yogurtland every night.

It's been a busy few weeks here in the Smith house.
I recently decided to try going back to work part time as an experiment.
An opportunity was presented to me and I decided to take it.
So far, it's working out great. Our sitter, Annette, who has been watching our kids for us since Carson was about three months old, is able to watch the kids while I go to work two afternoons per week. I have already gone two days this week and so far, it is fun to get out a little bit, use my skills, earn some extra money, and come home to two sunshiney faces.
So far, so good.
The kids are growing and changing daily.
Carson's little mind is taking everything in and spitting it all back out.
He is doing great on the potty, has moved to the next level in swimming lessons, and has 100 different phrases every day that make us laugh.
Samantha is eating new foods (scrambled eggs! puffs! grapes!), loves to scream like a wild bird, taps her hands on her legs like she is making a beat, and recently has become enamoured with my eyelashes. She is not crawling, but she is rolling everywhere and loves to stand up.
I know her mobility is upon us but I am not ready to face it.
I hope she continues to stay put for awhile yet!
So amidst all of these changes, we are having a great month at the Smith house.
We are getting ready for a fun July. My mom is coming to visit for the entire month and my sisters Annon and Felecia are coming for a week. We will also be visited by Baba, Papa, and Auntie Nee, the Bicklers and their boys, and Jason's law school (*hooligans*) friends at different points in the month. It's going to be a busy and fun July....we're ready!

More Cali...

Just a few more pictures of our trip to California that I had wanted to post.
It was such a fun trip!

Sam's first wedding

This is a video of what Samantha was doing during Jason's cousin Hans' entire wedding ceremony.

She raspberried the ENTIRE time. Let's hope her future husband doesn't get this at her wedding someday. "Do you take this man?" Pwwwwwbbbbbwwwwwwwbbbbtttttt!

"Calisornia"

We took Carson and Samantha to their first wedding this past weekend in Pasadena, CA.
It's a lot of work travelling with two kids this age.
You should have seen our car when it was fully packed with all of their stuff.
You would have thought we were going somewhere for 6 months!
But we did it.
We got to experience a beautiful wedding and it was so fun to see family!
Sam - California girl

Carson and his cousin Vivek are about 9 months apart.

Samantha and Vivek's sister Kamala are 5 days apart!

Room service anyone?

Piano lessons are next on our list of things to do.
This boy loves music!

Happy birthday Dad....

My Dad's 64th birthday would have been Friday.
It's not easy to miss him all the time.
He had such a great life and I wish it would have lasted longer.
Here is us, one year ago June 18th, celebrating his last birthday.
We miss and love you Dad...
I know he is enjoying a steady stream of black russians in heaven with his friends and family, looking down on us all the time....

Brunch with the Olivers

Yesterday we went to a fun brunch with our good friends the Olivers.
We celebrated Samantha's baptism.
The Olivers are also godparents of both of our kids and since they couldn't be there when Sam was baptized in Chicago, they wanted to do a little something to celebrate her.
It was a fun time spent with good friends. We are lucky to know them and our kids will be lucky to have a special relationship with Sarah, Dean, and their "godbrother" Isaiah.
They are expecting a little girl in about a month and we can't wait to see how their life is turned upside down by the love of their sweet little lady, like ours was 7 months ago!

We have a big road trip coming up this week.
We are going to California for Jason's cousin's wedding.
We are stopped in Pacific Palisades on Thursday to see Jason's second cousins and then on to Pasadena on Friday to start the wedding festivities.
This will be Carson and Sam's first major road trip together and their first wedding.
I am sure it will be quite the adventure!

Smart

One word can describe Carson at this time.
"Smart".
He is so smart, it blows me away on a daily basis.
Yesterday he identified the colors on his xylophone in spanish.
He knew them all except for purple!
Today I was whistling songs from his favorite show "Little Einsteins".
He could identify the episode that the song was in by listening to the melody.
Yesterday during dinner, his spoon flipped out of his yogurt cup and he said
"Phew! That was close!"
Of course this also means that he is smarter than me. Or he thinks he is.
We have some behavioral battles but it is very developmentally appropriate.
He is two, after all!
But he has such an amazing memory.
Who knows what he will be doing by the time he hits preschool.
Maybe he will be teaching the class?

Carson and Isaiah

Carson and Isaiah were monkeying around the house all morning together.
If you blinked, you would miss them.
Their favorite game is "Chase me!"
They can't get enough.

We had a small pause when "Yo Gabba Gabba" came on.
Phew!

Our loves

Carson and Sam took in a little "Diego" this morning on our bed.
I managed to snap a few pics of our beautiful babies in the meantime...

Smith kids in June

It's HOT in Vegas this week.
We hit the 100's and there is no turning back.
Summer is here! Bring it on.
This week we had our friends Deana and Jason Bickler in town.
We were lucky enough to spend much of the week playing with them.
Carson now asks every morning "Go to Auntie Dee's house? See Jackson and Alex?"
Here is a little snapshot of our week...
We wore tutus in the yard...
Why not?

Swam in the pool at the Bickler's house on Memorial Day.
We overstayed our welcome but they didn't seem to mind!
We had so much fun.

Carson and Sam are interacting more and more and it is so cute.
She grabs him at every chance she gets.
It is only the beginning! Get used to it Carson!

Scotty came over to play with us for a whole day while our friends Brian and Kim moved into a new house. It was a great day - Scotty is such a good boy!
Nice job, Brian and Kim!

Sam hung out nudie in Carson's red chair.

Love Sam's face as Carson gets ready to hammer her toy.
She's like "What are you DOING??"

Sam is into her sippy cup and finger food now.
It's all very exciting!

Another good summer week at the Smith house.
We love summertime!

Monkey lady

Here are some more 7 Month monkey shots! :)

7 Months

Our sweet Sam is 7 Months now.
Here are her latest happenings!
She is trying finger foods - most recently peach, avocado, and her new fave, puffs!
She is obsessed with her sippy cup.
She is quiet some days and very vocal on other days - depends on her mood!
Speaking of mood, she is even steven. We can pretty much bet our life savings every day that Sam is going to be happy.
She enjoys grabbing hair and noses.
She loves to roll and push up - no thought of crawling yet, thank heavens!
Her favorite books are "hello Bee, hello me!" and "Woof Woof Peek A Boo"...
(Two fascinating works of literature.)
She has the biggest open mouth smile that melts your heart and lights up the room.
Her M.O. is this - in the words of Papa Dennis...She will make flowers of your hours!

Handstands

I was practicing my handstands tonight in the living room.

Apparently I need to brush up on my form because Sam thought my handstand was HILARIOUS!
