20 Weeks

Happy 2008 to all of our beloved friends and family.
We will be having the opposite of the traditional Vegas New Year's - ordering pizza!
Mmmmm.....Carson loves pizza.

Time to register!

We officially completed a baby registery without incident.
Without the help of our dear friend and experienced mother, Sarah Oliver, we would probably still be in the store with a "deer in the headlights" look....wandering aimlessly amongst breast pumps and wipe warmers.
We also got the help of a real baby, our godson Isaiah Oliver. He offered his opinions from the Baby Bjorn when he could, all the while looking smooth in his baby Jordan sweatsuit.

Above: Isaiah shows his enthusiasm for this particular glider.

A couple of 20 week ultrasound pics of Carson David Smith...

Carson's profile!Below: An example of some of the gymnastical moves that Carson was doing the entire ultrasound. I could never have done this move! I mean, seriously....what is he doing!?!? :)

Halfway there.....

We had our 20 week ultrasound today. The perinatologist measured our baby and checked all of his organs. We got up-close pictures of his kidneys, heart (all 4 chambers), stomach, palate, lips, nose...everything was normal for a 20 week old fetus, according to the doc. We were so excited to see him again and to see how he's growing. It's humbling to see all of those little organs and to imagine them working away to sustain that little bitty life. Both the doctor and the sonographer confirmed the earlier call that Baby Smitty is a BOY...He had his legs wide open for us today and his manly business was there for all to see!
A sidenote: We had a wonderful trip home to Chicago/Iowa to see our families for Christmas. It was so fun to see everybody again! Another note: Baby Smitty's father is obsessed with a game called Guitar Hero on Playstation 2. He bought it today and is trying to master a number of hard rock songs on his guitar. Our Jason....a frustrated rocker afterall!
Will try to post pics tomorrow!

Bumps....Vegas style.

I had some girlfriends over last night for our 3rd annual holiday party.
It was so good to see everybody!
Three of us were displaying bumps this year.
Good friends Tai (middle) and Kelly (right) are expecting in '08 also.
Pictured in Tai's belly is future pal of Baby Smitty, expected in March.
Kelly is expecting Baby Smitty's potential girlfriend, Riley, in February.
He may only weigh 7 ounces but he's got buddies already!

18 Weeks

There is definite expansion in the mid-section!
Baby Smitty continues to be active during the day. He loves it when I drink cold water!
He has momentarily stopped laying on my sciatic nerve at night, which is nice.
Baby Smitty has two rather diverse concerts coming up.
One is a Christmas concert at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on Saturday.
The other is Jay-Z at the Pearl at the Palms on December 29th.
Recent developments of Baby Smitty's ears will allow him to appreciate both the classical genre and the ghetto fabulous!

A Christmas Picture...

Just a picture from Jason's work Christmas party this past weekend.
Happy Holidays to all of our good friends and family!

3D Pictures of Baby Boy Smitty :)

My personal favorite picture is below....Baby Smitty hard at work on his abs of steel.

A good shot of the face below. He's scrawny at 17.5 weeks but still super cute.
I think he looks like Jason.
Note: I can see an ear. I am thrilled that our baby has them. Other things like arms and legs are key, but EARS....that's about all I need to see! :)
Another cute picture of his face in 3D.

It's a...........................

BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are so excited!! The gender check ultrasound was amazing. We went in and the sonographer showed us Baby Smitty and the heartbeat. Then she zoomed in on our sweet baby. Baby Smitty's first instinct was to give us the Heisman, put his hands behind his head, do some sit ups, and then sit Indian style for awhile with the umbilical cord between his legs so that we couldn't see a darn thing. I had to keep moving from side to side to get him to change position. Finally he gave us a few peeks and we were able to see his manly parts.
I have to say I was pretty shocked. I thought it was a girl all along. It seems that I can guess the sex of everyone else's baby but my own!
Being there was like watching someone else's baby move around on a huge 100 inch screen.....except it wasn't someone else's, it was ours! That doesn't really make sense but that's how it was for me! We were both completely amazed by the quality of the 3D pictures. I will scan them and hopefully they will reproduce on the blog.

17 Weeks

I am 17 weeks pregnant and I still can't believe it. I told my boss today that I am pregs. This was big for me because I had been putting it off. He was very happy and excited for us! This picture was taken after I consumed some BJ's pizza, so the bump is a little bigger than usual as a result. Wednesday is our fun appointment at the 3D ultrasound place.....I will post later this week to hopefully answer the boy/girl question! The baby is kicking quite a bit more now. Today I had some hot chocolate at work and it went bonkers!

16 Weeks!

There are a few fun Baby Smitty updates since last week. I can't believe I am 16 weeks - it is pretty surreal. 4 months pregnant sounds like a lot! We had a doctor's appointment on Friday the 30th. It went really well...We were able to listen to the heartbeat, beating away at a normal rate for babies this age. Everything else is normal according to our doctor. We made our 20 week ultrasound appointment for December 28th. Unbelieveable! Also, I made an appointment at a fancy 3D ultrasound place by our house for next Wednesday, December 12th. The lady on the phone assured me that we would be able to tell the baby's sex by then. So, here's hoping that the baby gives us "the money shot" next week so that we can tell its gender! I am still sold that it's a girl....but time will tell!
