A busy social calendar
This weekend was both fun and busy! Jason's Uncle Bob was in town this week doing the live production for the Miss America pageant, so we got together with their family today. Carson had a chance to meet his adorable cousins Emma, age 6, and Olivia, age 4. Bob was nice enough to get me a ticket to go to the show on Saturday night with his wife and girls, which was a blast. We went down to the Mirage today for the visit and Carson was a huge fan of the Mirage, particularly the lights that lead up to the entrance of the LOVE Cirque show.
Below...Carson strikes his Mission Impossible pose at LOVE.

Noooooooo
Carson said "No" today. I am not kidding.
I thought it was a fluke the first couple of times. But it's not.
He is just copying me, I know. But I think "no" will eventually be in the running for first word.
Carson also says "Mama". He says it most in the middle of the night when he is sitting up in his bed and wants to play. He really lays it on thick!

January in Vegas!
Carson is enjoying a great long weekend with his Daddy, Grandma Barbie and Papa Dave while Mommy is back in Chicago for her friend Carie's wedding. Carson sends the following big smile to Auntie Carie & Uncle Daryl to tell them CONGRATS! Can't wait to see you guys in Vegas next month!
We have been VERY fortunate to have a week full of 65 degree, sun-filled days. We tried to take advantage of it by getting Carson outside as much as possible. Here are a few pics of Carson and Jason at the Mesa Park, one of the wonderful Summerlin parks very close to our house.
Such a big boy, standing up at the top of the playground equipment, while rockin' his Cubs hat that he got when with Grandma Caryn over Christmas.

More 8 Month Pics
A playdate with buddy Parker Davidson
Carson is becoming quite the beefcake. I'm not sure how much he weighs now...he no longer fits on the baby scale at the hospital! His next dr's appointment is next month.
Looking handsome before his play group last Wednesday...
Movin'
Carson has been crawling for about a week. Here he chases his Hawkeye dino around the living room. Look out!

There he is....Carson David....
Carson has debuted some new tricks this week.
He waves "hi" to everyone wherever we go....to all the people in line at the post office...the checkout lady at Target....to his dad when he first sees him in the morning....He loves to wave and even opens and closes his hand for emphasis. It is super cute.
Other exciting tricks include....
Crawling to the edge of our carpet and pulling it up for an inspection, each time trying to eat the edge of our area rug. Gross!
Carson is also too cool to wear a bib. He pulls off every single bib we put on him. If I put on a stern face and say "no" when he does it, he flashes a mischevious grin.
Carson also dances in his baby Einstein. When the classics come on, his legs start to move like nobody's business. He's not afraid to shake his groove thing.....wonder where he gets that?!?!
He is also eating some new foods, including bits of kiwi, grapes, and egg yolk omelets. We also tried tofu after reading up on how it is such a great source of protein. But Carson thought it was so nasty, he practically gagged when I put the smallest piece into his mouth. I can't say I blame him. We also decided to stop nursing this week. It was such a tough decision, because I loved nursing and the experience was awesome for both of us. But in the last month, nursing Carson has become a bit like trying to nurse a baboon.
He was all over the place.
So we've made the switch to formula and I can't say that he seems to care one way or the other. I am definitely more sad about it than he is!

8 Months
Carson is crawling....slowly but surely...and is checking out everything in his path.
No, don't lick the bathroom floor.....No, don't grab the digital frame and throw it.....No, don't put that door stopper in your mouth....Carson is a little bit adventurous these days, but who can blame him? The world is oh, so interesting!

Happy New Year!
It's 2o09 and the Smith family made it back to Las Vegas from Chicago yesterday afternoon on the airplane. The plane ride wasn't without incident...After Carson pooped twice, became fascinated with the baggies of peanuts, flirted with all the women sitting around us, and attempted to style the hair of the poor sleeping gentleman sitting in front of us...we finally arrived in Las Vegas...all three of us weary, and wondering how on earth our friend Sarah Oliver travels back and forth to Holland alone with her son Isaiah. Hats off to you Sarah! Mr. Carson was really awesome, though...he fussed a little bit...enough for us to offer a drink to the man sitting next to us (he declined)....but all in all, he did his best and earned his wings as a super baby traveler.
On the airplane....bags of peanuts providing entertainment for....oh, about 5 minutes of the 3.5 hours.
Mom and Carson....looking a little scary at the midpoint of the flight. When the steward came around asking us if we needed anything, Jason fought the urge to ask for a fast forward button.
